Price: Early bird (before January 30, 2017) $2,249 CDN + 5% tax.
Regular $2,550.00 CDN + 5% tax.

Includes instruction, food, accommodation, most camping gear, camping fees and transportation while on trip. Does not include flight and some optional activities.

Expedition Highlights:

  • Paddle, by canoe, along the majestic coastlines of Sechelt Inlets Marine Provincial Park and Howe Sound
  • Hike to a glacier-fed lake (Rainbow Lake)
  • Spend time at Whistler’s Fireside Lodge, and sleep under the stars in some of BC’s best Provincial Parks to enjoy some peaceful rest in your tent
  • Learn the basics of front and back country camping, day hiking and orienteering
  • Obtain canoe certification
  • Learn about leadership styles and competencies of leaders
  • Partake in language and cultural exchange experiences with other international, Canadian and Indigenous youth
Additional Program Details
  • Campers are picked up by Navigo staff at Vancouver International Airport on the first day of camp and escorted to Vancouver International Airport on the last day.
  • This program takes campers to seemingly remote and beautiful locations, while still being only a few hours from an urban area.
  • Campers are supported by highly skilled outdoor instructors
  • Latin American campers are joined by Canadian, Indigenous and other youth campers from around the world.

June 25, 2017 – Porpoise Bay Provincial Park

  • Morning arrival and pickup at Vancouver International Airport
  • Travel by bus to Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver to meet other campers
  • Equipment and bag check before departure
  • Walk onto BC Ferries to Langdale with Fireside staff
  • Campers travel on Fireside bus from Langdale to Porpoise Bay Provincial Park
  • Welcome ceremony and dinner at campsite
  • Acknowledgement of the people of Indigenous people and their territory
  • Overview of 14 day leadership program and goals
  • Review safety and emergency procedures and full value agreement
  • Evening paddle and review of group camp gear
  • Team building challenge
  • Swim test

June 26 to June 28, 2017 – Sechelt Inlets Marine Provincial Park

  • Morning wake up and pack up gear
  • Paddle 3.5 days through Sechelt Inlet
  • Ocean paddling skills review, practice and certification
  • Review meal preparations & cooking 101
  • Leadership Discussion Question: What is leadership? Who are your leaders? What are the characteristics of a leader? Why is leadership important to self and others? Review of leadership bracelet process.
  • Water purification, weather reading, shelter building and orienteering
  • Animal Aware: What to do when you see an animal (bears, cougars and raccoons)
  • Individual and group goal setting
  • Journal writing
  • Numerous short day hikes
  • Walking amongst ancient trees
  • Trip prep basics (packing bags, rolling sleeping bags, how to travel lightly, group gear, food prep)
  • Trip preparation (how to keep yourself warm, cool, dry and your gear water proof)

June 29, 2017 – Gambier Island, Howe Sound

  • Up early and pack up
  • Shower and pack up groceries and supplies
  • Evening canoe paddle crossing from Langdale to Gambier Island
  • Set up camp
  • Review Gambier Island expedition – circumnavigation of Gambier Island)

June 30 to July 4, 2017 – Gambier Island, Howe Sound

  • Halkett Bay clean up (community and environmental service project)
  • Day solo at Halkett Bay Provincial Park
  • Basic hiking 101 – review and endurance exam (group will participate on several half day hikes on Gambier Island)
  • Stargazing
  • Snorkelling
  • Land orienteering lesson
  • Evening discussions: 5 pillars of Fireside leadership and principles

July 5, 2017 – Squamish, Alice Lake Provincial Bay Park

  • Up early and paddle to Sunset Marina
  • Clean up gear and pack up canoes
  • Drive to Squamish and take spectacular Sea to Sky Gondola
  • Pick up groceries and supplies
  • Evening swim
  • Rest and take in the sunset
  • Evening Discussion: What to do when you are lost and what are your greatest fears?

July 6 to July 8, 2017 – Whistler, Fireside Lodge

  • Two full days exploring Whistler (hike to Rainbow Lake, tour the village, visit Olympic sites, swimming)
  • Camper Paid Option: zip trekking or Peak to Peak Gondola (paid by campers)
  • Skill Test: Putting outdoor skill knowledge to the test with an evening challenge course
  • Graduation BBQ
  • Movie night at the Fireside Lodge

July 08, 2017 – West Vancouver

  • Up early
  • Camper evaluations and debrief
  • Travel to Vancouver International Airport for late afternoon departures
